    How Does International Competitiveness Affect Economic Development? A Two-Phase Hypothesis

    This paper analyses the impact of international competitiveness on economic development, based on the World Economic Forum Global Competitiveness Index (GCI) and GDP/capita of 125 countries during the period 2007-2010. The results reveal two phases of the evolution of competitiveness. When GCI < 4.5 (on 1-7 scale), any improvement of a country’s competitiveness affects current development more than future development. When a country’s GCI rises above 4.5, further improvements of competitiveness will affect future development more than current development.     An approach to dynamic web service composition

    Today, changeable requirements to modern web-oriented services demand their fast development and constant reengineering. This is realized via dynamic composition of services, allowing to estimate changes of both functional and nonfunctional service parameters. The last ones are considered using Web Services Agreement technique. Nevertheless, state-of-the-art SLA-aware methods are not able to consider all classes of non-functional parameters. They also don’t provide service run-time support and dynamic reconfiguration. The novel approach to dynamic Web Services Composition, extending SLA with QoS ontology, is described in the paper. It includes service selection agents that use the QoS ontology and WS-Agreements, allowing agents to choose the most appropriate service based on quality preferences exposed by service consumer. The proposed approach allows performing dynamic WS composition based on SLA, providing required values of QoS parameters, improving general QoS and decreasing service development and re-engineering time

    On the Impact of Strained PECVD Nitride Layers on Oxide Precipitate Nucleation in Silicon

    PECVD nitride layers with different layer stress ranging from about 315 MPa to −1735 MPa were deposited on silicon wafers with similar concentration of interstitial oxygen. After a thermal treatment consisting of nucleation at 650°C for 4 h or 8 h followed annealing 780°C 3 h + 1000°C 16 h in nitrogen, the profiles of the oxide precipitate density were investigated. The binding states of hydrogen in the layers was investigated by FTIR. There is a clear effect of the layer stress on oxide precipitate nucleation. The higher the compressive layer stress is the higher is a BMD peak below the front surface. If the nitride layer is removed after the nucleation anneal the BMD peak below the front surface becomes lower. It is possible to model the BMD peak below the surface by vacancy in-diffusion from the silicon/nitride interface. With increasing duration of the nucleation anneal the vacancy injection from the silicon/nitride interface decreases and with increasing compressive layer stress it increases. © The Author(s) 2019

    Complex approach to service development

    Modern companies including telecommunication companies and mobile operators working in the global environment should guarantee technological effectiveness and innovation, renewing their technologies and services. Operation Support System/Business Support System is used in telecommunication companies. In current state-of-the-art approaches, several iterations involving analysts and system architects are necessary, methodologies allow modeling non-functional or functional requirements but they do not take into account the interaction between functional and non-functional requirements as well as collaboration between services. Web Services Agreement is a convenient way to contain QoS parameters but state-of-the-art SLA-aware methods cannot support all classes of non-functional parameters and provide run-time support and dynamic reconfiguration at the same time. The approach proposed in this paper fills this gap. It employs a well-defined workflow and analysis model for developing and adapting complex software systems including support of all classes of non-functional parameters and providing run-time support and dynamic reconfiguration of provided services

    A model of the transverse cooling of atoms in the field of a surface light wave inside a glass capillary is considered. The attenuation coefficient for transverse oscillations of atom in a microcapillary is estimated, and the length of effective atom cooling is calculated. A 3D model is constructed. The possibility for the practical application of this phenomenon both to develop the technology of atomic lithography and to fabricate the nanostructures is considered

    Chaos induced coherence in two independent food chains

    Coherence evolution of two food web models can be obtained under the stirring effect of chaotic advection. Each food web model sustains a three--level trophic system composed of interacting predators, consumers and vegetation. These populations compete for a common limiting resource in open flows with chaotic advection dynamics. Here we show that two species (the top--predators) of different colonies chaotically advected by a jet--like flow can synchronize their evolution even without migration interaction. The evolution is charaterized as a phase synchronization. The phase differences (determined through the Hilbert transform) of the variables representing those species show a coherent evolution.Comment: 5 pages, 5 eps figures.     Mechanical and Tribological Properties of Carbon-Based Graded Coatings

    The paper presents research on coatings with advanced architecture, composed of a Cr/Cr2N ceramic/metal multilayer and graded carbon layers with varying properties from Cr/a-C:H to a-C:N. The microstructure of the coatings was analysed using transmission electron microscopy and Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy, the mechanical properties were tested by nanoindentation, spherical indentation, and scratch testing, and tribological tests were also conducted. The proper selection of subsequent layers in graded coatings allowed high hardness and fracture resistance to be obtained as well as good adhesion to multilayers. Moreover, these coatings have higher wear resistance than single coatings and a friction coefficient equal to 0.25
